DescriptionIn the series Overtime, the artist appropriated metal waste shavings discarded at her job at a high-end metal fabrication workshop in New York City. Her job involved drilling and cutting brass and bronze for days, a process which results in residue of varying sizes and textures, depending on the operation. Some forms are long and curled, while others are small and grainy. The artist collected this waste material and transported it to her studio in Vienna, Austria. In the Overtime series, the material is presented in stainless steel and plexiglass frames which recall the slides of a microscope or a microfiche. The title of the series refers both to the actual labor which the artist undertook, as well as the idea of a process unfolding over time. The work becomes an archive, representing the scrap metal as a beautiful and precious specimen.
