DescriptionWhen We Talk on the Phone You Never Imagine My Surroundings so I Am Nowhere (2018) is assembled with overlapping sheets of different aluminum plates. They are perforated and used, folded and cut in places that show traces, as some of the metal used in these works are offcuts and residues from industrial production gathered at a Viennese metal scrap dealer and manufacturer. Mechanical seriality and preset forms are the salient body image. The additional cuts and scratches on the surfaces are new openings - towards one another. Screens merge and make connections, overlay, fade and appear behind and in front of each other. Merging them so that they become two same size works to once cover up an open wall, whose casing skin hadn’t been applied, consequently showing its bare insulation layer. Here metal is treated like shielding paper or even fabric, displaying the wish for more malleability of our surrounding architecture. Sheets escape the frame that holds them together. One peering eye is reaching through the tube that appears to be a looking glass. Clogged with blue sugar, possibly turning into a nesting place for insects and coy emotions. The once sticky, initially red and now blue dot, suggests a new coordinate of a being trying to seize ground - a place to rest and hide. Removed from a default use, this plane of shields is trying to shape (private) space, where one is half visible and half undergoing change behind protecting layers. A bead necklace hanging at the bottom wires bodies, reminding of intimate, off-gird human
interaction.
