DescriptionKarin Ferrari uses images, signs and symbols form pop culture and Internet subculture in order to analyse the present. Her drawings incorporate Internet imagery, the aesthetics of digital image production and neotrash materialism. Inspired by vaporwave - a microgenre of electronic music and an Internet Meme - Ferrari’s drawings feature a fascination with the utopian desires of esoteric pop and consumer capitalism. Her artistic research focuses on narratives of Internet subculture on the threshold of academic theory, (political) paranoia, and speculative fiction. The videos of her web series DECODING (THE WHOLE TRUTH) are inspired by a counter culture on YouTube and reveal hidden messages in music videos and TV clips.
